The faculty has developed a wide range of various activities that ensure varied joint extracurricular activities. Contests, meetings, shows, fairs, balls, picnics and many other events, which will be remembered with a feeling of appreciation by the graduates after the completion of their studies, are conducted throughout the year.
September traditionally starts with a meeting dedicated to the Knowledge Day, which symbolizes the beginning of a new academic year. After welcome speeches given by the management of the Academy the competition winners are awarded prizes in the following nominations: Student of the year, Best group of students, Best room of students in the dormitory and Best dean. And then start academic year and interfaculty life, which includes the City Day holiday followed by an initiation ceremony for freshmen. Senior students arrange an initiation ceremony as an act of handover from graduates to new students. Such show is held in Medeo Valley in a picturesque structural basin located behind the dam. An Autumn Ball and a Job Fair are also held. Interfaculty games of KVN (in the Kazakh and Russian languages) are held every autumn, the winner of which move on to participation in the city-wide contest.
The New Year celebrations are especially bright and diverse. Rooms, auditoriums and other premises are decorated together with the teachers. A very busy period of winter mid-term examinations for all teaching staff ends with a solemn charity dinner arranged by the management of the Academy, which is held in its own Saulet restaurant. After completion of mid-term examination period students leave for winter vacation until the end of January of the next year.
The winter-spring period of second semester is marked by such bright events for students as Valentine’s Day, “Queen of Academy” beauty pageant, Zhigit Sultany. A student show contest “Spring in KazGASA” is held followed by Nauryz celebrations. Meanwhile, preparation for participation in NIRS (scientific and research work of students with teachers) Scientific Conference becomes the main extracurricular activity at this time for many students. Research is conducted into the current important issues of art and design, the results of which are submitted for participation in the republic-wide competition. The best works are recognized with diplomas and certificates and affect further studies of the students, for example, at the Master’s program. In addition, they write articles for the KazGASA book, deliver reports with video presentations.
With great enthusiasm the students engage in sport activities and take part in minifootball competitions for KazGASA President’s Cup, take part in spartakiad “For Healthy Lifestyle”. Such movement is truly relevant today, and therefore, in support of this movement and in connection with imperatives of our time smoking and alcohol consumption are strictly prohibited on the territory of the academy.
Spring is the time of picnics and excursions to natural reserves and recreation areas. For example, we go on excursions to Charyn Canyon, a world-class tourist attraction and many other places.
The biggest milestone of the year is the defense of diploma projects and the diploma award ceremony to the graduates of the academy.
The study process would not be so successful if students and teachers were engaged in it alone. The faculty has developed a wide range of various activities that ensure varied joint extracurricular activities. Contests, meetings, shows, fairs, balls, picnics and many other events, which will be remembered with a feeling of appreciation by the graduates after the completion of their studies, are conducted throughout the year.
